Lamar Cross Country Dominates at Northwestern State Invitational

NATCHITOCHES, La. - - The Lamar University women's and men's cross country teams had their best performances of the year Friday afternoon, taking first place at the Northwestern State Invitational in Natchitoches, La.

The Lady Cardinals took the top seven spots in the race for a total of 15 points, while Northwestern State finished in second with 59 team points. The men grabbed first place with 31 points, followed by Southeastern Louisiana with 59 points.

The LU men were led by Danny Shaw who grabbed the top overall spot in the men's 6K race in 19:15, 34 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Jake Champagne took third place in 19:54, while Ben McBride finished in seventh place in 20:15. Hamish Meacheam took ninth place with a time of 20:20, Martin Husen grabbed the 11th spot in 20:25 and D.J Bean rounded out the top 20 finishers for Lamar in 19th in 21:01.

Renee Graham led the way for the Lady Cardinals for the third time this season, completing the 4K race in 14:23. Amanda King took second place in 14:38, Stacey Monteau was third with a finishing time of 14:43 while Clerc Koenck finished in 14:46. Rounding out the pack of LU runners were Jacqueline John (15:04), Natasha Williams (15:31) and Amber Prather who finished the race in 15:57.
 

 

"Obviously I am very pleased with the way we came out and ran today," Lamar cross country coach Sita Waru said. "Both the men and the women had very strong performances. Now we just need to carry this momentum into the conference meet."

Next up for both teams will be the Southland Conference championships on October 31, back in Natchitoches.
