Tolbert, Williams open action for Lamar at Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays

AUSTIN - Lamar distance runners Natasha Williams and Travis Tolbert each competed in the 10,000 meters on Wednesday night, leading a contingent of Cardinal track and field athletes that will be competing throughout the week in the 77th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays hosted by the University of Texas at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

Williams and Tolbert, both sophomores from Nederland, were the first LU representatives to compete in the 2004 Texas Relays as Wednesday's scheduled featured a limited number of events.

Williams posted her second consecutive 10th-place finish at the annual UT meet, clocking the second-best time in the Southland Conference with a 39:12.72. Last season she recorded her personal best with a time of 38:55.26. Tolbert ran his first-ever competitive 10,000 and placed 14th. His time of 33:27.51 ranks third among the league leaders.

LU freshman Rowan Baird and junior Jason Ramsey are the lone Cardinals scheduled to compete on Thursday, while the remaining team members are slated to run during Friday's prelims. Ramsey will take part in the 400-meter hurdles at 5 p.m. and Baird is slated to run in the 5,000-meters at 5:30 p.m.

The men's and women's 4X100 relay teams open Friday's action at 9:30 a.m. with preliminary heats of the 400-meter relay.
