LU Men Open Season With 4-1 Win Over Central Oklahoma

BROKEN ARROW, Okla. - The Lamar men's tennis team opened the 2005 spring season with a victory on Friday evening, taking down the Central Oklahoma Bronchos, 4-1, on the indoor courts at Indian Springs Country Club.

The match started with doubles play where Lamar seniors Juan Pablo Alatorre and Emilio Kirby posted an 8-4 victory at the No. 2 position. The Cardinals No. 3 brother combo of Christian and Emmanuel Olivier dispatched the UCO tandem of Justin Constant and Brian Jordan, 8-6, to help LU clinch the doubles team point.

Alatorre, a native of Mexico City, won his No. 2 singles match 6-2, 6-2 over UCO's Mark Johnson, while seniors Ignacio Melus and Christian Olivier followed suit to help secure the victory.

Emmanuel Olivier and Dean Clower, a senior from Broken Arrow, did not finish their respective matches after Lamar locked up the overall team win.

The Cardinals are set to return to action on Saturday when they take on the University of Tulsa at 5 p.m. at the Michael Case Tennis Center.
