Cardinals Win Lochinvar Challenge; Bekker Claims Medalist Honors

HOUSTON - Sophomore Oliver Bekker fired a 4-under par 68 to lead Lamar University men's golf to the team title at the Lochinvar Challenge hosted by the University of Arkansas at Lochinvar Golf Club Tuesday.

The three-team challenge also included Kansas State. Lamar shot an even-par 288, followed by Arkansas at 304 and Kansas State at 316 in the one-round event. Junior Dawie Van Der Walt placed second with a 3-under 69 and junior Russell Helson shot a 2-over 74 to place third. Sophomore Justin Harding tied for seventh with a 77 and junior Casey Clendenon tied for ninth at 78. Senior Dusty Smith tied for 13th at 79 to round out the Cardinals' scores.

Lamar continues its spring schedule Feb. 26-27 at the All-American Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Houston at Cypresswood Golf Club.
