Lamar Posts Best Round of the Day to Move Up to Fourth Place at CordeValle Collegiate

SAN MARTIN, Calif. - The Lamar University men's golf team shot the best team score of the day and moved up to fourth place following Tuesday's second round at the CordeValle Collegiate hosted by UCLA at CordeValle Country Club (Par-72, 7,169-yards).

Casey Clendenon, a senior from Katy, and Hugues Joannes, a sophomore from Brussels, Belgium, both shot rounds of 1-over 73 after opening with 1-under 71s on Monday. Both are tied for ninth place at even-par 144. James Lee of UCLA, who opened with a 7-under 65, carded an even-par 72 Tuesday and still holds the individual lead at 7-under 137. Sam Lyons of Coastal Carolina is second at 5-under 139.

Host UCLA holds the team lead at 5-under 715. Stanford and USC are tied for second at 725. Lamar, who posted a 1-over 361, is fourth at 6-over 365-361--726. Coastal Carolina is fifth at 728 to round out the top five in the 11-team field.

Russell Helson, a senior from Georgetown, and Justin Harding, a junior from Cape Town, South Africa, both shot rounds of even-par 72 after opening rounds of 73. Both are tied for 17th place at 1-over 145. Leroux Ferriera, a junior from South Africa, fired a 1-under 71 and is tied for 34th at 4-over 77-71--148. Will Gilchriest, a sophomore from Humble, shot a 78 and is 66th at 84-78--162. Each team fielded six golfers with the top five scores counting toward the team total.
 

 

The field will play the final 18 holes Wednesday to complete the 54-hole event.
