Lamar in Second Place at CordeValle Collegiate When Play was Suspended Due to Darkness

San Martin, Calif. - Behind the play of Casey Clendenon and Dawie Van Der Walt, the Lamar men's golf team led after the first round lead and is currently in second place as the second round was postponed due to darkness Monday at the CordeValle Collegiate hosted by UCLA at CordeValle Country Club (Par-72, 7,119-yards).

The second round will continue at 9:30 a.m. (CST). The final round will start at 10:30 a.m. (CST) with a shotgun start. Teams will be repaired according to score.

Lamar shot an opening round 8-under par 280 and held a one-stroke lead over Stanford and Arizona. The Cardinals are 6-under par during their second round, which is good for second place at 14-under. Stanford is 15-under in its second round and has taken over the team lead at 22-under. Arizona and Coastal Carolina both completed its second round and are in third and fourth place at 12-under 564 and 11-under 565, respectively.

Van Der Walt, a native of Cape Town, South Africa, was the only Cardinal to complete his second round. After opening with a 4-under 68, he posted a 1-under 71 in the afternoon and is tied for 10th at 5-under 68-71--139.

Clendenon, a junior from Katy, also opened with a 4-under 68. He is currently 3-under in his second round, which has him tied for third at 7-under. Zack Miller of Stanford holds the 36-hole lead at 9-under 135. After posting an even-par 72 in the morning, Miller fired a 9-under 63 in the afternoon.

Dusty Smith and Oliver Bekker are tied for 25th place at 1-under par. A senior from The Woodlands, Smith opened with a 1-over 73 and is currently 2-under through 16 holes in his second round. Bekker, a sophomore from Stellenbosch, South Africa, opened with a 1-under 71 and is even-par in his second round through 15 holes.
 

 

Justin Harding, a sophomore from Cape Town, South Africa, is tied for 70th place at 5-over 149. He shot a 3-over 74 in the morning and is 2-over through 16 holes in the second round.
