Lamar Tied for Sixth After First Round at CordeValle Collegiate

SAN MARTIN, Calif. - Paced by Casey Clendenon and Hugues Joannes, the Lamar University men's golf team is tied for sixth place following Monday's opening round at the CordeValle Collegiate hosted by UCLA at CordeValle Country Club (Par-72, 7,169-yards).

Clendenon, a senior from Katy, and Joannes, a sophomore from Brussels, Belgium, both fired opening rounds of 1-under par 71 and are tied for 11th place. James Lee of UCLA shot a blistering 7-under 65 and holds a three-shot lead over Rory Hie of USC, Sam Lyons of Coastal Carolina and Henrik Norlander of Augusta State.

Host UCLA also grabbed the 18-hole lead with a 7-under 353 total. Coastal Carolina is second at 354, followed by Texas A&M (360) and Stanford (363) and USC (363). Lamar is tied with Augusta State with an opening round 365.

Russell Helson, a senior from Georgetown, and Justin Harding, a junior from Cape Town, South Africa, are both tied for 25th after opening rounds of 1-over 73. Leroux Ferriera, a junior from South Africa, carded a 5-over 77 and is tied for 50th. Will Gilchriest, a sophomore from Humble, is 70th after an opening round 84.

The tournament continues Tuesday with another 18 holes and concludes Wednesday with the final 18 holes to complete the 54-hole event.
