Lamar Places Sixth at Eighth Annual Palmetto Intercollegiate

AIKEN, S.C. - Paced by Andre Metzger and Dusty Smith, the Lamar men's golf team placed sixth following Tuesday's final round at the Eighth Annual Palmetto Intercollegiate hosted by South Carolina-Aiken at Palmetto golf club.

Metzger, a senior from Norman, Okla., posted rounds of 77-74-71--222 to tie for 19th place on the par-71, 6,380-yard course. Smith, a sophomore from Kingwood, also tied for 19th place following rounds of 75-72-75--222. Jordan Irwin of Houston won medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 1-under par 212.

South Carolina-Aiken and Houston tied for the team championship with 54-hole totals of 873. The two teams played two playoff holes, but still remained deadlocked. South Florida was third at 879, followed by Texas-Arlington (882) and Charleston Southern (886). Lamar was sixth at 891.

Sophomore Ryan Kornmann shot rounds of 76-75-75--226 to tie for 25th place. Senior Shawn Stefani tied for 39th after rounds of 74-71-83--228 and sophomore Casey Clendenon posted rounds of 74-77-79--230 and tied for 49th.

Lamar continues its spring schedule March 25-26 at the Border Olympics hosted by Texas A&M at the Laredo Country Club.
