Lamar Tied for Second After First Two Rounds at St. Croix Collegiate Classic

ST. CROIX, V.I. - Paced by senior Shawn Stefani, the Lamar men's golf team is tied for second place after Friday's first two rounds at the St. Croix Collegiate Classic hosted by Xavier University at Carambola Golf Club.

A native of Baytown, Stefani posted a 2-under par 70 in Friday's morning round and followed with a 1-under 71 in the afternoon. He is tied for sixth place at 3-under 141. Jason Kokrak of host Xavier holds the individual lead after consecutive rounds of 3-under 69 for a 36-hole score of 6-under 138.

Xavier leads the 17-team field with a 36-hole total of 6-under 570. Lamar is tied with Rhode Island for second place at 3-under 573. Texas-San Antonio and Charlotte are tied for fourth at 2-under 574.

Sophomore Dusty Smith is tied for 17th place at even-par 144 following rounds of 1-over 73 and 1-under 71. Sophomore Ryan Kornmann and senior Andre Metzger are tied for 23rd at 1-over 145. Kornmann posted rounds of 2-under 70 and 3-over 75 and Metzger had rounds of even-par 72 and 1-over 73. Sophomore Casey Clendenon shot rounds of 2-over 74 and 1-over 73 and is tied for 37th at 147.

The classic concludes today with the final 18 holes.
