Manhattan, Kan. - C.J. Jamison, Jared MacLeod and Terence Newman each won events for Kansas State on Friday as the Wildcats hosted the KSU Open indoor track and field meet at Ahearn Field House.

Friday's meets included men's events only, as the women's meet was held on Thursday. The meets marked the final tuneups for the Wildcats for next week's Big 12 Conference Championships, to be held at the University of Nebraska.

Jamison won the triple jump at 50 feet, 1.25 inches for K-State. MacLeod had a season-best 8.01 seconds in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles, then went on to win the final in 8.07.

Newman, making his first appearance of the season on the Wildcat indoor track squad, won the 60-meter dash. He went 6.69 seconds in qualifying to hit an NCAA provisional-qualifying mark, and just minutes later, won the final in 6.70. Newman and fellow football teammate Ricky Lloyd finished 1-2 in the 60-meter final, as Lloyd went 6.88 in his first track meet of the season.

Kansas State had a limited number of participants on Friday evening, as many members of the team were resting in preparation for next week's conference meet. Former Wildcat and current U.S. national champion Nathan Leeper won the high jump on Friday. Leeper cleared 7-4.50 to set a meet record, breaking the old mark of 7-3.75 set by Attila Zsivoczky of K-State in 1998. Ron Hunter of Emporia State was second at 7-1.

Four meet records fell on Friday night, including Leeper's mark. Scott Russell of Kansas won the weight throw at 75-2.50, Newman's qualifying mark of 6.69 seconds in the 60-meter prelims was a record and Christian Cantwell set a meet record with his win in the shot put at 66-1.

The meet marked the end of the home schedule for the Wildcats in the indoor season.

MEET NOTES

* Kansas' Scott Russell set a meet and Ahearn Field House record by winning the weight throw at 75-2.50. Russell set the mark in his first attempt of the competition. K-State's Adam Walker was fourth at 61-7, setting a career-best. Walker remained third on the Wildcats' all-time list in that event despite his improved mark.

* In his first appearance on the track and field team, football player Terence Newman won his preliminary heat of the 60-meter dash in 6.69 seconds. His time was an NCAA provisional-qualifying mark, broke his own meet record of 6.71 set last year, and was the fastest by a Wildcat this season. Newman was only 0.02 seconds off his school-record time of 6.67 seconds, set at last year's Big 12 Championships. His time ranked third in the Big 12 this season.

Ricky Lloyd, also coming over from the football team for his first indoor track appearance, also qualified for the finals in 6.98 seconds, matching the eighth-best mark all-time at K-State.
