JACKSONVILLE. Ala. - Sophomore Erin Sutton picked up where she left off last season as she won the 2006 Jacksonville State University Cross Country Season Opener while also leading Kennesaw State to victory on Saturday morning. The reigning Atlantic Sun Conference champions looked strong in the first race of the season as they easily handled the four-team field. The Owls (1-3-4-5-8) finished with 21 points, 23 points ahead of second-place Jacksonville State (2-6-9-11-16) and West Georgia (61) and Alabama A&M who scored 117 points. Kennesaw State (3-0) had five runners finish in the top team with Sutton, last year's A-Sun Freshman Runner-of-the-Year leading the way and winning her first collegiate cross country event. Sutton (11:52.1) defeated Lesley Binning of Jacksonville State by over four and one-half seconds.
