Owls Return Home to face Presbyterian

Sept. 10, 2007

KENNESAW, Ga.--After a six-match road trip, the Kennesaw State University volleyball squad will return to the KSU Convocation Center for a non-conference match against Presbyterian College. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.

The Owls will enter the match having lost five straight, including their three matches at the DePaul Volleyball Invitational. Sophomore libero Selina O'Leary was named to the All-Tournament team at the Invitational after averaging five digs per game in a 3-0 loss to Samford in the finale.

"We played some very tough teams at our last tournament," said KSU head coach Valerie Jones. "Our intensity level as a team really began to pick up at this tournament, and I'm looking forward to seeing that same intensity throughout the remainder of the season."

Presbyterian (6-4) enters the match after sweeping through UNC Wilmington's "Battle at the Beach." The Blue Hose defeated the host Seahawks, Norfolk State, and Atlantic Sun Conference member Campbell. Presbyterian is riding a six-match winning streak after dropping their first four matches of the season.

The Owls have gone 1-5 since their last appearance in front of their home crowd. KSU won its second match of the season with the first five-game win in the history of the program - a 3-2 victory over UNC Asheville on September 1.

"We're really excited to finally be back home," said Coach Jones. "We really want to win our first home match both for us as a team and for our fans."

Blocking has been one of the strong suits of Coach Jones' squad in 2007. The Owls are averaging 1.89 blocks per game, the fourth-best average in the A-Sun. Senior Lindsey Plotner is leading the way for the Owls with an average of 1.03 blocks per game. She is one of only four players in the A-Sun to be averaging at least a block per game.

After tomorrow night's match with Presbyterian, the Owls will hit the road again for a three-match trip, starting this Friday at the South Alabama Invitational. KSU will face McNeese State at 5:00 p.m. Friday followed by a match with the host Jaguars at noon Saturday.
