She Did It Again: Matthews Named Pitcher of the Week

April 23, 2007

MACON, Ga. - Kennesaw State junior Brittany Matthews has been named the Atlantic Sun Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week, in an announcement made by the league office on Monday. She shares the award this week with Campbell's Brittany Stanley.

This marks the third time the Brooks, Georgia native has won the award this season. She also earned the honor for the weeks of February 26 and April 9.

Matthews had yet another great week for the Owls, as she posted a 3-1 record and a 1.88 ERA in games against No. 22 Georgia Tech, Jacksonville and UNF. The left-hander posted complete game shut-outs in the openers against the Dolphins and Ospreys, and followed with a win in relief in the finale against UNF.

For the week, she recorded 23 strikeouts while opponents batted just .167 off the junior. With her three A-Sun wins, the Owls hold a two-game lead over preseason Stetson in the regular season standings.

KSU will close out its conference schedule on Wednesday night when the Owls travel down I-75 to take on Mercer at 6:00 p.m. at Sikes Field. With a sweep of the Bears, KSU will clinch the A-Sun regular season title outright.
