KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State Owls, under first-year head coach Rhyll Brinsmead, have already made their mark on a national level as the Black and Gold were ranked No. 66 in the first Golfweek Magazine ranking of the season. The Owls received their first-ever top 100 ranking on the heels of a seventh place finish at the Draper Intercollegiate Invitational last week in Virginia. Kennesaw State has a rating of 76.28 after the poll and has already defeated three top 100 teams this season. "Our ranking reflects the hard work that our girls have put in during the past few months," said Kennesaw State head coach Rhyll Brinsmead. "Our goal is remain in the top 100 while continuing to improve our national ranking." Individually, Abby Fitzgerald is the lone Owl to crack the Top 150, with a ranking of 145 in the nation. The Owls sophomore, who has a 62-8-1 record after one event, has a rating of 74.50. Chelsea Bonk is currently ranked 286th with a 76.50 rating. "Abby and Chelsea played extremely well at the Draper Intercollegiate," said Brinsmead of her two ranked sophomores. "I feel that all of our golfers will move into the top 200 by seasons end if they play up to their potential." Kennesaw State will return to action on September 29 when they participate in the Great Smokies Invitational at the Waynesville Country Club in Waynesville, N.C . |
