Women's Golf Signs Fitzgerald to National Letter of Intent

KENNESAW, Georgia - January 23, 2006 - Kennesaw State women's golf coach Denise Killeen has announced the signing of Albany, Georgia product Abby Fitzgerald, to a national letter of intent.

Playing the final year of her prep career at Lee County High School Fitzgerald enjoyed a successful campaign, highlighted by a third place finish at the AutoTraders Invitational, played on the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens.

Fitzgerald did not begin playing golf until the ninth grade and was home schooled for her sophomore and junior years in order to devote more time to her game.

"Kennesaw State is proud to have Abby become part of our team in the fall," said Killeen. "She has the ability to develop into a very strong player, and we are so excited that she has chosen to do that at KSU."

Fitzgerald is coming off a tremendously successful 2005, winning all three tournaments in which she entered. In late June, she won the Junior Classic in Stone Mountain by shooting a 24-over par, 168. The next month, Fitzgerald took the Albany Amateur Championship crown. As if her summer could not get any better, Fitzgerald won the GSGA State Championship by shooting a 10 over, 144.

"I look forward to helping Abby develop and seeing how far she wants to take her golf career," added Killeen. "She is a great student, both on and off the course, and Kennesaw State is lucky to have her become a part of this fine institution."
