Owls Show Well in Division I Debut
MYRTLE BEACH, South Carolina - August 22, 2005 - The Competitive Cheer squad headed to South Carolina last weekend for the first time as a Division I program and all of the success and accolades which the team had at the Division II level has apparently followed.
The two-time, reigning Division II national champion Owls left the Palmetto state with three awards at the 2005 NCA Cheer, Dance and Mascot Camp held at the Springmaid Beach Resort. Kennesaw State won the Most Collegiate Award, the Best All-Around Award and the Division I Game Day Competition Award. "The girls performed well and represented Kennesaw State in fine fashion," said head coach Felecia Ingle on her squads D-I debut. "We were a bit disappointed because we weren't as tight in routines as we would like to be at this point in time." The Owls performed head-to-head against all of the programs in winning the Most Collegiate and Best All-Around awards. They competed only against All-Girl Division I programs when they captured the Division I Game Day Competition crown. "This was a good learning experience for the freshman," added Ingle. "It also was good for the squad itself to see what competition is ahead of us now that we are Division I." The weekend-long showcase saw the Owls in their first competition against established Division I programs such as South Carolina, North Carolina and Furman. "We did well for our first Division I showing," added Ingle. "It really was a wakeup call for the team. The girls saw firsthand that the competition is a lot more difficult." |
