Lady Owls Host Austin Peay on Saturday
Nov. 29, 2007
KENNESAW, Ga. - A week removed from playing three straight days at the Travelers Classic in Lubbock, Texas, the Kennesaw State women's basketball team is set to return to campus as the Lady Owls play host to Austin Peay on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the KSU Convocation Center. The Lady Owls (3-4) come into Saturday's showdown after dropping the final two games in last week's holiday tournament. After starting the three-day event by downing Alcorn State, KSU fell to the host Lady Raiders and Idaho State to close out the tournament and return to Georgia on a two-game losing skid. Greteya Kelley paced the Lady Owls in Lubbock after averaging 15.7 points and recording 13 steals en route to being the only KSU player named to the All-Tournament Team. The Lawrenceville, Ga., product shot 48.8 percent over the three games and was 9-of-11 (.818) from the free throw line. DeAndrea Bullock also stepped her game up, scoring 9.7 points and grabbing 8.3 boards per game. The Black and Gold have been stellar on the defensive side of the court through their first seven contests. The Lady Owls are second in the Atlantic Sun Conference in steals, averaging 13.85 per game, led by Kelley who has 34 of KSU's 97 total takeaways. Junior Britteny Henderson has jumped out of the gate quickly on the offensive end as well, as the Georgia Perimeter College transfer is second on the squad in scoring at 11.3 points per game. The Atlanta native has been a beast on the glass, leading the team with 9.3 rebounds per game, including 34 offensive boards. Austin Peay (2-3) enters the Convocation Center looking to move to .500 after dropping three of its first four games to start the season. The Lady Govs are coming off a 75-72 win over Southern Illinois on Wednesday night, despite 23 turnovers, 17 of which came in the first half. Senior guard Ashlee McGee led the APSU offense, scoring a season-high 19 points after going 5-of-12 from the floor and 8-of-9 from the charity stripe. The Lady Govs have struggled offensively, only managing to score 60.8 points per game. Wednesday night's 75-point output was the most Austin Peay has scored all season and the most since an 81-72 win over Tennessee State last February 12. This will be just the second time that the Lady Owls and Lady Govs have met. The Black and Gold came away with a 56-49 victory on December 19, 2006 inside the Winfield Dunn Center. Stephanie Scearce led the offensive charge with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Jennifer Baker scored 13 points in 35 minutes. KSU held the Lady Govs without a three-pointer in that game, snapping a streak of 222 straight games in which APSU had hit a shot from behind the arc.
