KSU Wins Georgia Collegiate Championships

MACON, Georgia - October 1, 2005 - Jason Waters finished in second place to lead a trio of Kennesaw State runners who finished in the top six as the Owls won the 2005 Georgia Collegiate Championships on Saturday morning at the Georgia Children's Home.

Kennesaw State (39-4 overall, 20-1) won the event by 20 points over runner-up UNC Ashville. The Owls topped the field of mostly Georgia teams with the effort of Waters, Piotr Kaszkur (4th place) and Lukasz Skrzypiec (6th place).

Waters finished with a time of 25:15, trailing only Brandon Hughes (24:52) of Troy State. Waters was also one of five Kennesaw State runners to earn All-Georgia Recognition. Joining Waters was Kaszkur, Skrzypiec, Daniel Gormly and Maxwell Ndungu.

"It was very solid effort," said head coach Stan Sims. "We ran well throughout in a very difficult field."

Kaszkur finished with a time of 25:51:00 while Skrzypiec came in with a time of 25:56:00. Gormley crossed at 26:28:00 while Ndungu rounded out the Owls scoring with a time of 26:59:00.

Matthew Coy had a time of 27:26:00, Michael Johnson finished in 27:36:00, Scott Phillips had a time of 27:52:00 and Alex Parker ran the course in a time of 32:35:00.
