Taylor, Waters Named All-Americans
Evansville, IN - Senior Landon Taylor and junior Jason Waters earned All-American honors after finishing in the top thirty at the 2004 NCAA Division II National Cross Championships on November 20.
Both Taylor and Waters earned their first All-American honors after finishing 25th and 28th respectively at the championships. Taylor, Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Year in 2001, concludes his Kennesaw State career in high fashion after receiving All-Region and All-Conference accolades in each of his four years with the Owls. "I couldn't imagine a better way for Landon to end his collegiate career," said a proud head coach Stan Sims. "After everything he has accomplished to be named an All-American after his final college race is such a wonderful thing for such a deserving young man." Waters, who received Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Year honors in 2002, has had equal success over his three years with the Owls garnering All-Region recognition three times as well as All-Conference honors. "Jason had a great race," added Sims. "He has worked hard since day one and has been such an impact runner in his three years here, I am glad to see him get this honor." Taylor and Waters become the fourth and fifth runners to receive All-American honors for the Owls. The duo is also the first-ever teammates to receive All-American honors in the same season. Joseph Mutai was named All-American in both 2002 and 2003, while Gediminus Banevicius won the award in 2001 and Jari Venalainen earned All-American status in 1999. |
