Burley, Owls Take Second at Gardner-Webb

Oct. 7, 2006

BOLING SPRINGS, N.C. - Scott Burley finished in second place and the Owls had three runners place in the top 10 as Kennesaw State finished second at the Gardner-Webb Cross Country Duels last evening.

Burley, who is coming off a record setting 8k performance last weekend, finished the 6k course in 19:10.0, 11 seconds behind winner Michael Deren of East Tennessee State.

The Owls finished with 50 points, 10 points behind ETSU in the event which featured four Atlantic Sun Conference teams. Gardner-Webb (68) and Campbell (96) finished behind the Owls as they raced at the site of conference championships later this month.

"We wanted a chance to run on the course," said head coach Stan Sims. "It's good to get a feel of the course and get accustom to its characteristics."

Peikko Solla (19:47.0) finished in 8th place and Dan Gormley (19:55.0) posted a 10th place finish for Kennesaw State. The Owls had all of their scorers finish in the top 20. Maxwell Ndungu (20:18.0) finished 14th while Michael Johnson (20:35.0) posted a 16th place finish.
