Jones, KSU End Season at Tech
ATLANTA, Georgia - May 13, 2006 - It was a full day for the Kennesaw State men's outdoor track team as they competed in their final meet of the season on Saturday afternoon, competing in the second day competition at the 2006 Georgia Tech Invitational at the George C. Griffin Track on Friday evening.
Kennesaw State runners competed in seven events on Saturday with Devin Jones giving the Owls their best performance of the day, finishing 23rd in the 110 meter hurdles. "Devin ran well today in a very difficult field," said head coach Don McGarey. "The long season has really pushed everyone to their limits, but Devin and our entire squad has stepped up to the challenge as they usually do." Jones finished with a time of 14.93 besting the times of Roland DaSilva of Miami and David Ford of Georgia Tech. Jones also competed in the 400 meter hurdles where he finished 30th with a time of 54.16, ahead of teammate Tony Crocker who placed 39th with a time of 1:00.44. Mark Deroux placed 34th in the 100 meter run with a time of 10.93. Teammate Uchenna Emejulu was 48th, posting a time of 11.17. In the 200 meter run the two teammates switched order with Emejulu besting Deroux by a scant .18 seconds. Emejulu placed 31st with a time of 22.19 while Deroux was 33rd with a time of 22.37. The pair also ran in the 400 meter run with Emejulu finishing 36th (50.04) while Deroux ran a 50.59 for a 41st place showing. In the 800 meter run, Joseph Mutai had the best time of the four KSU runners competing in the event. Mutai ran a 1:56.37 to finish in 51st place. Matthew Auers finished 63rd (2:00.67) while Tony Crocker came in 65th with a time of 2:06.57. Rich Almand had a time of 2:08.76, good for 66th position. Auers also ran in the 1500 meter run and finished 44th with a time of 4:13.46. In field competition, Aymerick Kolokilagi participated in the discus throw and the shot put. |
