Waters Wins 10K at A-Sun Championships

CLERMONT, Florida - April 14, 2006 - Kennesaw State once again showed its strength in distance events as the Owls took home first and third in the 10,000-meter run to help the team finish tied for third at the end of day one at the 2006 Atlantic Sun Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday night.

Jason Waters won the 10k with a blistering time of 31:58.14 to secure ten points for the Owls. Teammate Daniel Gormley (32:22.72) took home third, finishing just two seconds behind second-place runner Lucas McAneny.

Aymerick Kolokilagi scored three points for KSU by finishing fifth in the javelin (46.81m, 153'-07") and sixth in the hammer throw (36.26m, 118'-11"). Mark Deroux took home sixth in the long jump after a leap of 5.98m (19'-07.50").

The only other Owls to compete, Ben Gray and Austin Klinefelter, qualified for the 100-meter dash finals after running time of 11.49 and 11.53 respectively.

KSU will aim for its first conference title as the majority of the events will be contested on the final day of the 2006 A-Sun Championships on Saturday.
