Waters, Gormley Finish One-Two in 5,000 Meter Run
CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina - February 4, 2006 - The duo of senior Jason Waters and freshman Daniel Gormley finished first and second respectively in the men's 5,000 meter run to pace the Kennesaw State men's track team at the University of North Carolina Invitational on Saturday.
Waters won the event in a season-best time of 15:07.99, while Gormley wasn't far behind, crossing the line in 15:17.52. Senior Piotr Kaszkur took tenth in the event with a time of 16:34.32. In the mile run, senior Joseph Mutai grabbed a sixth place finish with a time of 4:24.52, less than 10 seconds behind William and Mary's Matt Wolak (4:14.63). Sophomore Devin Jones improved his preliminaries finish of 16th by more than a half a second to finish seventh in finals of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.40. In the 4 x 400 meter relay, the Owls finished in sixth place with a time of 3:31.22, while the distance medley team captured a second place finish with a time of 10:43.59. Other performances of note for the Owls included senior Lukasz Skrzypiec, who took tenth in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:59.79 and Waters who finished in 8:51.98 to take tenth in the 3,000 meter run. The Owls will be back in action when they travel to the Atlantic Sun Conference Indoor Championships on February 17-18 in Johnson City, Tennessee.
