Owls Can't Recover From Poor First Half Shooting

ST. LOUIS, Missouri - December 17, 2005 - Ronell Wooten scored 23 points, including six three-pointers, but it wasn't enough offense as Kennesaw State dropped a 74-60 decision to St. Louis at Savvis Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Owls (4-5 overall) found themselves trailing by three heading into halftime, despite shooting just 21.7 percent from the field and scoring a season-low 16 first half points.

Saint Louis (5-4) did not fair much better in the first 20 minutes of play, as the Owls held the Billikens to 19 points on 27.6 percent shooting.

Kennesaw State came out of the break looking to rebound from its poor shooting performance, and did so by shooting 64 percent in the second stanza. The Owls tied the game at 19-19 when Andre Morgan knocked down a three-pointer. St. Louis responded, going on a 12-0 run, capped by Ian Vouyoukas' dunk with 16:29 to go in the game.

KSU came within seven points of the lead after three 3-pointers by Golden Ingle in a span of 40 seconds cut the Billiken lead to 60-53 with 4:25 remaining. But as they had done to open the half, SLU put together another run, this time nine straight unanswered points, pushing the lead to 69-53.

Wooten led all scorers with his 23 points. Morgan and Ingle each added 14 points for the Owls. Vouyoukas led SLU with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Tommie Liddell pitched in 19 points for the Billikens.

The Owls will continue their three-game road trip when they play Furman in the Jack in the Box Classic in Greenville, South Carolina on December 29.
