Owls to Honor Pair on Senior Night
Feb. 23, 2007 KENNESAW, Ga. - The 2006-07 season comes to an end of Saturday afternoon and so does the collegiate career of Golden Ingle and Brent Ragsdale and the Owls will celebrate them both in a pre-game ceremony before Kennesaw State battles Stetson at the KSU Convocation Center. While the Owls will look to exact a measure of revenge for their loss to the Hatters (11-17, 6-10) in the Atlantic Sun Conference opener in December, the day will be a fond farewell to Ingle and Ragsdale. For the pair of stellar student-athletes, it is a chance to say farewell to the Owls in front of their family, friends and hometown fans while also giving the black and gold faithful a chance to pay tribute to Ingle and Ragsdale. From Riverdale, Ga., Ragsdale came to Kennesaw State from Lincoln Trail College in Robinson, Ill. and has been a fixture in the starting lineup. Starting in all but one game over his career. His quiet, reserved demeanor off the court is nothing like his tenacity on the court. One of the premier defenders in the conference, Ragsdale is called upon night-after-night to stop the most explosive scorers in the league. And night-after-night he rises to the challenge. Over his two-year career with the Owls, Ragsdale has literally done it all. Last season, without a solid inside player, Ragsdale was asked to score and he responded averaging 11.2 points. This season, he was asked to play solid defense and he did. And when asked to pick up the scoring pace he responded by being one of the most consistent players this season, averaging 8.5 points a night. The second son of head coach Tony Ingle, Golden Ingle has thrilled fans in Kennesaw and from city-to-city across the country. The A-Sun's premier point-guard and one of the top long-range shooters in school history; Ingle's college basketball career has been a ride unlike others. One of the top prep players in the country, Golden spent his first year playing at Division I Western Kentucky before transferring to Kennesaw State, then a Division II program, in 2001. After earning all Peach-Belt honors as a sophomore and leading the Owls to a 20-win season, Golden took two years off to serve a Mormon Mission. After being away from the game for three seasons, Ingle returned to his role as Owls point-guard and was nothing but spectacular. He resumed his role as a major offensive threat for Kennesaw State as he led the team in both scoring (16.8 ppg) and assists (6.1 apg). This year Ingle is averaging 10.8 points and 5.7 assists, leading the A-Sun in assists. Ingle also became the eighth Owls player to join the 1,000-Point Club, doing so against Longwood at the Las Vegas Classic in December. The ceremony begins prior to the Owls and Stetson match up which is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Brent Ragsdale Golden Ingle |
