Super Shooting, Late Rally KO's KSU

BOCA RATON, Florida - February 18, 2006 - It seems like however good the Owls have been recently, their opponents have just been unable to miss any of their shots. Saturday night was different for Kennesaw State. The Owls shot 54 percent from the field in the first half, but could not take the lead for one minute of the game as the owls of Florida Atlantic shot 70 percent in the first half and pulled away late from the Owls, 81-62, at the FAU Arena.

Although the Owls (12-15 overall, 10-8 Atlantic Sun Conference) never led in the game, six times they found themselves often cutting double-digit leads into single-digit ones. Ronell Wooten scored a game-high 31 points and kept the Owls within striking distance until a 17-0 run over seven minutes midway through the second half did in the worn-down Owls.

After trailing by seven points at the break, the Owls, who committed just nine turnovers on the night, quickly found themselves down by double-digits early in the second half as Rodney Webb (10-for-11, 24 points) hit a three-pointer to give FAU a ten-point bulge.

Wooten (10-for-17, 31 points) scored four of the Owls next five points as Kennesaw State was able to make the score 50-45 with 15:32 left to play. Wooten would score 13 of the Owls next 17 points and twice bring his team to within a point as the 12 minute mark approached.

The Owls sophomore would hit a three-pointer to close the lead to 54-53 with 12:40 remaining and then after a Quinton young trey pushed the FAU lead to four again, Wooten was fouled on a three-point try and made all three free-throws to make the score 57-56 with 12:05 left in the game.

Unfortunately for Kennesaw State that would be the last points the Owls would see. A Wooten free-throw with 3:48 left would snap a 17-0 run by Florida Atlantic and give Kennesaw State their seventh loss in their last eight games.

Florida Atlantic ended the night shooting 70 percent from the floor and 71 percent from three-point range. In addition they didn't miss any of their five free-throws and out rebounded KSU by an astonishing 35 to 14, they out grabbed Kennesaw State by 21 on the defensive end.

Brent Ragsdale added 14 points for the Owls and Andre Morgan added ten points. Golden Ingle, back in the lineup for the first time in nearly two weeks, did not start and scored five points in 33 minutes. Carlos Monroe scored 13 points for FAU.

Kennesaw State will conclude their road trip next weekend when they conclude the season with games Friday night at Belmont and Sunday afternoon at Lipscomb. The Owls and Bruins will play at 7:00 p.m. cst while the Bisons and owls will end the regular season in a 1:00 p.m. cst clash in Nashville.
