Owls Snap Losing Skid with 4-1 Win Over Samford
KENNESAW, Georgia - April 26, 2006 - Andy Hudson ripped a bases-loaded double to key a four-run seventh inning as Kennesaw State stopped Samford, 4-1, on Wednesday evening at Stillwell Stadium.
The Owls (21-21) and the Bulldogs (23-18) battled through six scoreless innings before Kennesaw State broke on top in the seventh inning and snapped their three-game losing streak. Martin Baker (0-for-4) drove in the first run of the night for the Owls as his fielder's choice scored Matt Hopkins (1-for-4) who led off the inning with a double to gap in the left center field. After a walk and a hit batsman, Hudson (2-for-3) lined a double to the gap in the left center field scoring three runs and adding insurance. Owls starter Micah Sales (2-0) was very effective in his six innings of work. The right-hander kept the Bulldogs off balanced throughout the evening, striking out six batters and walking just one while allowing three hits. Justin Freeman (5-1) picked up the win in relief, pitching a scoreless seventh inning before surrendering a run in the top of the eighth. Michael Bohana notched his fourth save of the season pitching a scoreless ninth inning. Kennesaw State third baseman Matt Dallas (1-for-3) brought an 18-game hitting streak into the game and quickly ended any drama about continuing the streak as he grounded a single past third base in the third inning. The Owls had the best chance to score in the early innings as they loaded the bases in the bottom of the second inning. However, a great running catch by shortstop Michael Marseco robbed Hopkins of a bloop single. The Owls will be on the road this weekend as they face A-Sun rival Stetson in a weekend set. The first game is scheduled for Saturday at 7:00 p.m. with a Sunday doubleheader following on Sunday afternoon. |
