Lady Owls Release 2006-07 Schedule
KENNESAW, Georgia - July 7, 2006 - Kennesaw State women's basketball head coach Colby Tilley released the Lady Owls 2006-07 schedule on Friday afternoon with trips to Atlantic Coast Conference powers Georgia Tech and Clemson highlighting the slate.
The Lady Owls and Yellow Jackets will play for just the second time ever and the December 7th game will mark the first meeting since the two played in the Lady Owls inaugural season of 1982-83. Georgia Tech topped the Lady Owls by 12 points in the first meeting.
"Playing Georgia Tech is great for our program and our community," said Tilley. "While it is way too early to call this a rivalry, it is great for our program to be able to play such a high-caliber team."
Kennesaw State and Clemson will be meeting for the first time as the Lady Owls will hope to defeat its second straight ACC opponent in as many games when the teams tangle on December 10th in South Carolina. Both Tech and Clemson are coming off sub-par years in arguably the toughest conference in women's college basketball.
"Clemson has always been a top team in the ACC and have a strong reputation throughout the country," added Tilley. "Clemson doesn't schedule teams they don't feel will provide them with top competition, so this is a good shot in the arm for our program."
The 2006-07 ledger finds the Lady Owls participating in two tournaments, beginning on November 17 against IPFW in Asheville, North Carolina. The next day, KSU will play either UNC Asheville or Morgan State.
"Playing three teams we haven't played before gives us a good chance to see how we stack up against teams from different regions," mentioned Tilley. "It also provides a great vehicle for us to get our program noticed."
After a week lay-off for the winter holidays, Kennesaw State will be back in action on December 29 and 30 at the Mercer Holiday Tournament against UNC Asheville and Savannah State
The Lady Owls' regular season slate kicks off on November 10 at the KSU Convocation Center with a visit from Jacksonville State. The meeting with the Gamecocks will be the second in two seasons. The teams met last year in Alabama with JSU taking a close win.
KSU closes out the month of November at Winthrop on November 25 and opens A-Sun play at Stetson on November 30.
The month of December starts with the Lady Owls returning to the state of Georgia to take on Mercer on December 2, followed by KSU's visits to Georgia Tech and Clemson.
KSU entertains Charleston Southern for the first-ever meeting with the Lady Buccaneers on December 16 for the only home game of the month, followed by a trip to Austin Peay on December 19.
The New Year sees the Kennesaw State resuming A-Sun play on January 4 with a home game against Belmont, followed by a visit from Lipscomb two days later. Then KSU makes trips to Gardner-Webb and Campbell before returning to the Convocation Center for three straight against Jacksonville (Jan. 18), North Florida (Jan. 20) and ETSU (Jan. 27).
February opens with the Lady Owls traveling to Nashville, Tennessee to take on Lipscomb (Feb. 1) and Belmont (Feb. 3). KSU returns home on February 8 and entertains Campbell and then Gardner-Webb on February 10th as the Lady Owls look to avenge last year's home losses to the Camels and the Bulldogs.
The black and gold will hit the road for three more, returning the trips to UNF, Jacksonville and ETSU, before ending the month with a home game against non-conference opponent, Longwood, on February 26.
The Lady Owls second season in Division I and the A-Sun will conclude on March 1 and 3 when Mercer and Stetson come to town.
Excited with an influx of new talent, Kennesaw State's schedule begins with two preseason home games on November 3 and 6 against Columbus State and Berry College, respectively.
