Whitlock, Six Honored by A-Sun



KENNESAW, Georgia- May 8, 2006 - The Owls first season in the Atlantic Sun Conference was a continuation of the individual success that Kennesaw State had during its successful Division II run as six players, along with head coach Scott Whitlock, were honored by the league as they announced their post season awards on Monday afternoon. Whitlock, the winningest coach in the NCAA and recent inductee into the NFCA Hall of Fame, was named Co-Coach of the Year after leading the Owls to a second place finish in the conference. The Owls mentor shared the title with Campbell head coach Drew Peterson. Six players were named to the All-A-Sun squad, four were first team mentions and two were named to the second team. Keri McKee, Cambria McKay, Jennifer Hunt and Kelley Cowart were all named to the First Team while pitchers Lisa Lamb and Brittany Matthews were Second Team selections. Kennesaw State's six overall players were the most by any one team in the A-Sun. Florida Atlantic had five players while Stetson had four players honored. The Owls four First Team selections were also the best in the league. Stetson had three players. Florida Atlantic had four players named to the Second Team. All four of the Owls position players led the league in two offensive categories this season. McKee, who hit .410 for the year, led the league in batting average and hits with 73. McKay topped the A-Sun in doubles (14) and base on balls (42). Cowart led the conference in at-bats (191) and runs scored (44) while Nolan topped the conference with 11 home runs and 53 runs batted in.
