Johns Hopkins Earns Tie for Fourth in Conference Preseason Poll
Aug. 10, 2006 LANCASTER, PA - Hoping to build on the valuable experience gained by last year's freshman and sophomore classes, the Johns Hopkins women's cross-country team earned a tie for fourth place in the 2006 Centennial Conference Preseason Poll, released on Wednesday.
Dickinson was once again the top pick in the poll, as the Red Devils will put their streak of seven straight Centennial titles on the line later on this fall. Haverford was picked to finish second while Franklin & Marshall rounded out the top three. The Blue Jays shared their fourth place spot in the polls with Swarthmore.
Youth was once again the story for the Blue Jays in 2005 as all five of the top times in both the 5000m and the 6000m belonged to a sophomore or a freshman runner. Johns Hopkins got off to a good start right out of the gates as the team finished second at the Baltimore Metro Invitational, as the only team that stood between them and the top was Division I Towson. The Blue Jays also finished second the following week at the Terror Challenge. Johns Hopkins rounded out its season by finishing 13th out of 42 teams at the NCAA Regional Championships.
Junior Angela Kaon (Bridgewater, NJ/ Bridgewater-Rarifan) continued her impressive run for the Blue Jays as she posted the team's top time for 2005 in both the 5000m and the 6000m. Her best time in the 5000m (19:42) came at Oregon Ridge on September 3rd, in the season opening Baltimore Metro Invitational. Kaon also led the way at the NCAA Regional meet as she posted Johns Hopkins best finish, placing 46th. Sophomore Rachel Hogen (Los Angeles, CA/Harvard-Westlake) had a solid first season for the Blue Jays as she posted one of the top five times in the 5000m and two of the top five times in the 6000m over the course of the season.
