Dec. 1, 2005

With the Division III volleyball season finished, Johns Hopkins made its mark nationally, boasting top statisical performers and All-America players.

Statistically, the Blue Jays were highlighted by Honorable Mention Centennial Conference performer Amanda Lewis (San Antonio, TX/St. Mary's Hall) and her 13.01 assists per game, good for fifth in the nation. Overall, Lewis racked up 1,457 total assists, the best single-season total in Hopkins history.

Junior libero Lizzie Kay (Pacific Palisades, CA/The Cate School), an Honorable Mention All-America as named by the American Volleyball Coaches' Association (AVCA), finished 10th in the NCAA in digs per game, with 6.83. Kay's total is the 22nd best single-season mark since 2004, which was the first season of unlimited libero subsitutions.

Also garnering an Honorable Mention All-America nod from the AVCA was Katie O'Callaghan (Babylon, NY/West Babylon), who will graduate from Hopkins with the program's second-best career kill total, with 1,318.

Kay and O'Callaghan are the first two players to be named All-America under head coach Scott Pennewill, who completed his third season at Hopkins.

As a team, Hopkins ranked 14th nationally with 13.97 assists per game, totaling 1,565 for the season.

The Blue Jays finished the 2005 season 24-7 overall, with a Centennial Conference Regular Season Championship at 9-1.
