Nov. 6, 2003

Lancaster, PA - Johns Hopkins senior middle hitter Stephanie Kaliades (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) was named to the All-Centennial Conference Volleyball First Team while junior setter Betsy Baydala (Rockville Center, NY/South Side) was a second team selection, the league announced Thursday.

Kaliades, who earned all-conference honorable mention honors in 2002, leads the Blue Jays this season with 387 kills, while her 4.03 kills per game rank third in the league. Her 387 kills are tied for the fifth highest single-season total in school history, while her 4.03 kills per game would go down as the second highest at Hopkins. Kaliades is also second on the team with 35 service aces and fourth with 312 digs this year.

In addition to her single-season records, Kaliades ranks third all-time at Hopkins with 1,152 kills, while her 133 career service aces is 10th. She ranks among the top 15 at JHU with her digs and digs per game totals, and she will become just the second player in school history to have at least 400 kills in more than one season if she gets 13 more this year.

Baydala, also an all-conference honorable mention selection last year, leads the Blue Jays with 984 assists and is third in the league with 9.55 assists per game. Her 984 assists rank as the third highest single-season total in school history and push her career total to 2,677, good for third place on the Hopkins career list.

Baydala is third on the team with 382 digs, while her 3.74 digs per game rank 11th in the conference. Baydala, who also ranks fourth on the Blue Jays with 29 service aces this season, is fourth all-time at Hopkins with both 171 career service aces and 1,247 career digs.

Hopkins, which went 22-7 overall and 9-1 in the conference this season, earned the second seed in this weekend's league tournament at Gettysburg. The Blue Jays will face third-seeded Franklin & Marshall Saturday at 2 p.m in the semifinals, with the final to start 40 minutes after the conclusion of the semis.
