Last Week: Hopkins went 0-2 last week, falling to Gettysburg (0-3) and Franklin & Marshall (0-3) in Centennial Conference action. The Blue Jays are now 18-18 overall and 7-2 in the conference.

This Week: JHU returns to action Wednesday as the Blue Jays host McDaniel in the final home match of the season at 7:00 p.m. The Blue Jays trail the all-time series with the Green Terror, 14-7, but have won five of the past eight meetings. Hopkins will then compete at the Messiah Tournament on Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m.

The Coach: Head coach Chris Weidenborner is in his fourth season at Hopkins after a very successful first three seasons. He led JHU to a 67-41 record the last three years with three ECAC Tournament appearances. Weidenborner sports a 85-59 (.590) overall record with the Blue Jays. He is a graduate of the State University of New York (SUNY) at Brockport, where he enjoyed a three-year career as the team's captain and starting left-side hitter.

Team & Player Notes:

*Balanced Attack: The Blue Jays have displayed a balanced offensive attack this season as six players are averaging 1.67 kills per game or better, and seven players have over 100 kills. Stephanie Kaliades leads the team with 411 kills and 3.67 kills per game, while Samantha Raggi, and Elisabeth Breese are tied for second in kills per game with 2.44. Jen Hajj is fourth (2.11), while Skye Young and Kate O'Callaghan have averaged 1.80 and 1.67 kills per game, respectively. The Blue Jays are averaging 12.80 kills per game after 11.56 per game last season.

*Strength in Numbers: Through 36 matches, all 16 players have seen action, while 12 Blue Jays have played in 20 or more matches. Eleven players have collected at least 50 digs, while eight players have totaled 67 or more kills. For the 2001 season, eight players recorded double digit kills.

* Breese Climbs Charts: Senior middle hitter Elisabeth Breese tallied nine kills last week and is in third place at Hopkins with 941 career kills. She needs 59 kills to become the third player in school history with 1,000 for her career. Breese also ranks fifth at JHU in career blocks with 324. Breese has totaled three or more blocks in 17 matches this season, including a season-high nine versus Eastern on September 28. She leads the team with 98 blocks and is second with 318 kills.

* Baydala Makes History: Sophomore Betsy Baydala totaled 24 digs last week to become the first player in school history to record over 400 digs in two different seasons. Baydala leads the team with 410 digs after registering 407 as a freshman. She has collected double-digit digs in 24 matches and already ranks eighth at Hopkins with 817 career digs. Baydala also leads the team with 718 assists and 5.52 assists per game. She ranks third at JHU with 1,612 career assists. Baydala recorded a season-high 50 assists in JHU's five-game loss to Gallaudet on October 11, and has totaled 600 assists and averaged 9.23 assists per game in JHU's last 19 matches.

* Kaliades Leads Offense: Junior Stephanie Kaliades tallied 28 kills last week to become the third player in school history to record over 400 kills in a season. Kaliades has been JHU's top offensive weapon as she leads the team with 411 kills and 3.67 kills per game. She has totaled double-digit kills in 22 matches this season, including a season-high 24 versus the College of Notre Dame on September 24. Kaliades, one of three players in school history to collect over 300 kills in two different seasons, ranks ninth at Hopkins with 725 career kills. She also leads the team in aces (50), is fifth in digs (192), and fourth in blocks (40).

* Raggi Adds Strength to Middle: After missing the first 14 matches due to injury, junior Samantha Raggi has combined with Elisabeth Breese to give the Blue Jays a solid duo at the middle hitter position. Raggi is tied for second on the team with Breese in kills per game (2.44), is fourth with 176 kills, third with 54 blocks, and leads JHU with a .246 hitting percentage. She has totaled double-digit kills in eight matches and three or more blocks in nine contests.

* Centennial Playoffs: Even with two losses last week, the Blue Jays have secured a spot in the Centennial Conference Tournament with a 7-2 conference mark. Franklin & Marshall, Gettysburg and Haverford have also earned a spot. The tournament will be played Saturday, November 9 at the site of the No.1 seed.

* Newcomers Make Their Marks: Several newcomers to the team have made major contributions this season and given Hopkins quality depth. Freshman Colby Perkins continues to lead the team in digs per game (3.17) and is second in total digs (372). She has excelled at the libero position and also seen time at outside hitter.
