Last Week: Last Tuesday, the Blue Jays needed only three games to defeat the Red Devils of Dickinson. Junior Katie OCallaghan (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) led the way for the Blue Jays with 17 kills, and picked up eight digs. Classmate Jen Hajj (Boca Raton, FL/Pope John Paul II) chipped in ten kills for the Blue Jays, while senior Betsy Baydala (Rockville Center, NY/Southside) garnered ten kills, 28 assists and ten digs. In their second game of last week, JHU needed five games to down the Fords of Haverford. Baydala led the way for JHU with 28 assists, ten kills and 15 digs, as the Blue Jays improves to 11-9 overall, and 5-2 in the conference. Sophomore Lizzie Kay (Pacific Palisades, CA/The Cate School) finished with 40 digs for the Blue Jays. This Week: The Blue Jays have two matches scheduled for this upcoming week. On Tuesday, Dickinson will come to Baltimore to battle the Jays, while the Fords of Haverford will travel to Goldfarb Gymnasium on Saturday for a conference matchup. The Coach: Scott Pennewill is currently in his second year at the helm of the Blue Jays. He currently owns a 33-18 (.647) record at Hopkins. His .647 winning percentage is the highest ever of any Blue Jay coach. In his first season, Pennewill guided JHU to a 23-9 record, an appearance in the Centennial Conference Finals and an ECAC Tournament berth. Team & Player Notes: Captains: Senior Betsy Baydala (Rockville Center, NY/Southside) will captain this years squad. This will be the second consecutive year that she will be the team captain.
Baydala in the Record Book: Betsy Baydala continues to climb up the Johns Hopkins record book for career assists. Baydala, a setter for her first three years at JHU, continues to rack up assists despite playing a majority of her time at an outside hitters position. Currently Baydala has 3,227 assists, trailing only Michelle Dumler who has 3,376 by 149 assists.

Honor Her: Junior outside hitter Katie OCallaghan was named to the Centennial Conferences Honor Roll after leading the Blue Jays to a 2-0 conference mark last week. She collected a team-high 36 kills (4.50 kills per game) in the two games last week. The Blue Jays Among The Centennial Leaders: Lizzie Kay leads the Centennial Conference in digs per game with 6.61. The Blue Jays as a team are second in the conference in digs per game with 21.06. JHU has two players on the hitting percentage charts, with Baydala fifth with a .251 mark, and Jen Hajj eighth with a .239 clip. Katie OCallaghan is third in the league with 3.64 kills per game. As a team Hopkins is fourth in the conference with 12.65 kills per game. Kay Among The NCAA Leader: Lizzie Kay not only lead the Blue Jays in digs, but is ranked nationally in the department. As of games played through 10/10 Kay was 18th in Division II in digs per game with 6.62. Karen Tobias of Maryville leads with 8.74 digs per game. Washington College: Johns Hopkins owns a 20-7 lead in the career series between the Shorewomen and the Blue Jays. JHU currently is riding a 14 game win streak over the Shorewomen, and have not dropped a game to Washington College in the last 13 meetings between the two squads. Last season Stephanie Kaliades led JHU with 13 kills, by Betsy Baydala picked up 21 assists in the win. Byrn Mawr: Johns Hopkins has only dropped two matches, in 11 meetings to Byrn Mawr. Hopkins has taken the last six matches, all by the score of 30. In their last meetings, Kaliades picked up 18 kills, while Baydala added 36 assist.
