A Look Back and a Look Ahead at Blue Jay Volleyball:

A Look Back at the Previous Week:

The Blue Jays dropped two tough matches this week, a 3-0 decision to Dickinson and a 3-2 decision to Haverford. Amanda Lewis posted her fourth straight double-double in the match, versus Dickinson with 40 assists and 13 digs. Kim Jackanich posted her fourth straight double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs. In the match against Haverford, Lewis kept her double-double streak going with 65 assists and 15 digs and Jackanich did as well with 16 kills and 21 digs.

Scouting the Week Ahead:

On Wednesday, the Blue Jays will travel to Chestertown, MD to take on the Shorewomen of Washington College. Hopkins has won 16 straight against Washington, including a 3-0 win last year. Washington brings a three-game win streak into Wednesday's match including a 3-0 win over Ursinus on Saturday.

Saturday, the Blue Jays will host the Owls from Bryn Mawr in a 1 p.m. match. Hopkins has won eight straight matches against Bryn Mawr including a 3-0 victory last year. Bryn Mawr has won two out of its last three matches and will host Swarthmore on Thursday before traveling to Baltimore on Saturday.

Closing in on the Century Mark:

Hopkins needs just two more wins to reach the 100 win mark in Centennial Conference play. Hopkins has compiled a record of 98-38 in Centennial play entering this week. The Blue Jays would become just the third team in Centennial Conference history to reach this mark joining Gettysburg and Franklin & Marshall.
 

 

Surveying the Centennial Standings:

With just four games remaining on the regular season schedule, the Blue Jays are seventh in the Centennial standings with a record of 11-12, 2-4. The top five teams in the league make the playoffs which are do to start on November 1. Franklin & Marshall is in first place with a conference record of 7-0 while Gettysburg is second at 6-1. McDaniel and Dickinson are tied for third with records of 5-1, McDaniel will face the Blue Jays next Wednesday. Haverford is fourth at 4-2 while Swarthmore is 3-4, putting them just in front of the Blue Jays.

Leading the League:

Hopkins is either leading the Centennial Conference or close to the top in several statistical categories. The Blue Jays lead the Centennial Conference in assists with 13.89 per game, while sophomore Amanda Lewis leads the conference with 12.96 assists per game. Senior Lizzie Kay leads the Centennial in digs per game with 6.75. Freshman Allison Cappelaere ranks third in the conference in kills per game with 3.32 while the team as a whole is second in kills with 14.05 per game and third in digs with 21.75 per game.

Double Your Pleasure:

Sophomores Amanda Lewis and Kim Jackanich have posted some impressive numbers of late. Lewis has posted a double-double in five straight matches and has ten on the year. Jackanich has posted one in five straight matches and has nine on the year. Lewis is averaging 59.6 assists and 16.8 digs per game during the current streak. Jackanich is averaging 15.4 kills and 16 digs per game. Both players are just one double-double shy of matching the total number of double-doubles they recorded last year.

Career Rankings:

Lizzie Kay currently holds the Hopkins record for digs in a career with 2,418 entering this week. Kay also ranks first in Centennial Conference history for digs in a career. Amanda Lewis ranks third on the Hopkins career list for assists with 2,455 entering this week while Kim Jackanich's hitting percentage of .257 ranks fifth on the JHU career list.
