A Look Back and a Look Ahead at Blue Jay Volleyball:

A Look Back at the Previous Week:
Hopkins split its two contests last week, defeating Dickinson before falling at Haverford on Saturday. In the match against Dickinson, Hopkins had two players post double-doubles while Amanda Lewis moved into second place on the JHU career assists list. Against Haverford, the Blue Jays received nine kills and eight digs from junior Kim Jackanich.

Scouting the Week Ahead:
The Blue Jays have another big week ahead with two Centennial Conference contests on the schedule. On Wednesday, Gettysburg comes to Goldfarb Gymnasium. This will be the second meeting of the season between the two schools as Hopkins claimed a 3-0 victory last month at the Salisbury Invitational. Gettysburg leads the all-time series 27-4.

On Saturday, Hopkins travels to Swarthmore to take on the Garnet. Last year the Blue Jays grabbed the 3-2 victory as three players posted double-doubles in the win.

Approaching a Coaching Milestone:
Blue Jay head coach Scott Pennewill recorded the 96th win of his career at Hopkins when the Blue Jays defeated Dickinson. Pennewill now has the second most wins among Hopkins volleyball coaches all-time. The current record for most wins by a Hopkins head coach is 98 which Heidi Mass recorded during her five seasons on the sidelines.

Lending a Helping Hand or Ball:
With her 38 assists against Dickinson, junior Amanda Lewis moved into second place on the JHU career assists list with 3,380. Lewis enters this week's play needing 96 more helpers to tie Betsy Baydala for first on the career list.

Supporting a Good Cause:
The Centennial Conference coaches are uniting with the Susan G. Komen Foundation to help in the fight against breast cancer by "Digging for a Cure." Coaches and team members will be accepting donations/pledges for each dig their team records in selected matches during the month of October. The Blue Jays will be participating on October 6 at Swarthmore. Please contact Head coach Scott Pennewill for more information.

Stacking Up Against the Centennial:
Hopkins continues to rank high in the Centennial Conference statistics. The Blue Jays are second in assists (13.04 per game) and kills (13.64 per game). Hopkins is also second in blocks per game (1.90). Junior setter Amanda Lewis leads the Centennial in assists with 11.88 per game while junior Fiorella Castillo is second in service aces with 0.72 per game. Sophomore Allison Cappelaere ranks sixth in service aces with 0.56 per game. Juniors Adrienne Young and Kim Jackanich are ranked eighth and ninth in the league in hitting percentage (.272 and .266).

I'm Honored:
Junior setter Amanda Lewis was named to the Centennial Conference Honor Roll for the second time this season on Monday. Lewis had a big week averaging 10.67 assists per game and posting a double-double (assists and digs) versus Dickinson. Lewis' 38 assists against Dickinson moved her into second place on the JHU career assists list. She enters this week's play with 3,406 career assists.

Putting the Streak on the Line:
Hopkins hosts Gettysburg in Goldfarb Gymnasium on Wednesday night. The Blue Jays are 6-0 at home this season including 2-0 in Centennial Conference play. Dating back to last season, Hopkins has won eight straight matches amidst the friendly confines of Goldfarb. Hopkins is 43-10 at home under Head coach Scott Pennewill.

Senior Leadership:
Senior outside hitter Natalia Fijalkowski has provided the Blue Jays with a solid senior leader all-season long. Fijalkowski currently leads the squad in both kills (186) and digs (212). She has the potential to move into the top ten for career kills before seasons end as she currently has 768 kills.
