BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team lost to Gettysburg in Centennial Conference action on Wednesday night at Goldfarb Gymnasium. The Blue Jays lost the match in five games with scores of 30-28, 28-30, 30-28, 20-30, 14-16. JHU falls to 0-1 in the conference and 13-6 overall.

Hopkins served for the match in the final game, but was unable to close out Gettysburg as they charged back to win the fifth game. In an extremely intense match the Blue Jays were led by sophomore setter Betsy Baydala (Rockville Centre, NY/South Side) who finished with a team-high 60 assists and 22 digs. Baydala has recorded 124 assists in the last two matches. Senior outside hitter Stephanie Kaliades (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) added 21 kills for the Blue Jays.

Junior Jessica Cortese (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) led the Bullets with 20 kills and 20 digs. Sophomore setter Shannan Smith (Milmont Park, PA/Ridley) registered 56 assists to pace the offensive attack for Gettysburg.

The Blue Jays return to action when they travel to play conference rival Haverford on Wednesday, October 8 at 7:00 p.m.
