GETTYSBURG, PA - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team dropped both of its matches on Saturday at the Battlefield Classic in Gettysburg. The Blue Jays fall to 4-5 on the season after dropping both matches by a 3-0 score. In the first match versus Salisbury, Hopkins fell 27-30, 26-30, 21-30. The game scores versus Scranton were 31-33, 21-30, 24-30.

The Blue Jays dropped all three games in the Salisbury match, hitting just .173 as a team for that match. Freshman Allison Cappelaere (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) continued her early season success with 17 kills and seven digs against the Sea Gulls. Fellow freshman Katie Buckheit (Fairfax, VA/ Paul VI Catholic) led the team in digs with 12 while sophomore Amanda Lewis (San Antonio, TX/St. Mary's Hall) had 21 assists and two service aces while playing just one game in the match.

Hopkins was unable to fair much better in its second match of the day falling to Scranton, also in three games. Sophomores Adrienne Young (Oakton, VA/Thomas Jefferson) and Kim Jackanich (Pacifica, CA/St. Ignatius College Prep) tied for the team lead in kills with 10 each while Buckheit led the team in digs with 11 in one game. Lewis had 23 assists while Kristen Kozielski (Columbia, MD/Atholton) had 16 assists.

Cappelaere was named to the all-tournament team for her performance over the weekend.
 

 

The Blue Jays are back in action on September 15th when they travel to St. Mary's City for the Maryland Division III State Tournament.
