GETTYSBURG, PA - The Johns Hopkins volleyball team went 1-1 on day two of the Battlefield Classic hosted by Gettysburg College. In the first match of the day, which pitted the Blue Jays against the Blue Jays, it was Elizabethtown coming away with the 3-1 win. In the second match of the day, Hopkins (7-2) recorded its second win in a week over Salisbury, this time 3-1.

Elizabethtown won game one of its match by a 30-22 score before Hopkins captured the second game, 30-28. Elizabethtown then grabbed the win with game scores of 30-24 and 30-20 in the last two games. Junior Kim Jackanich (Pacifica, CA/St. Ignatius College Prep) posted a double-double in the contest with 15 kills and 11 digs while sophomore Allison Cappelaere (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) also had a double-double with 13 kills and 16 digs. Junior Amanda Lewis (San Antonio, TX/St. Mary's Hall) dished out 47 assists in the contest while senior Natalia Fijalkowski (Windsor, CA/Windsor) and sophomore Katie Buckheit (Fairfax, VA/Paul VI Catholic) both reached double digits in digs. Fijalkowski had 20 digs while Buckheit recorded 13.

In their second match of the day, the Blue Jays were scheduled to face a tough Sea Gulls team. The two teams had battled in a five set match a week ago. This time Hopkins claimed the first game by a 30-26 score before Salisbury grabbed the second game, 30-20. The Blue Jays responded by grabbing games three and four by scores of 30-26 and 30-27. In this match it was Fijalkowski posting the double-double with 13 kills and 15 digs. Buckheit continued her strong play with a team high 21 digs while Lewis had 42 helpers. Cappelaere just missed the double-double with nine kills and 16 digs.
 

 

Cappelaere was named to the all-tournament team for her play on the weekend. Hopkins returns to action on Friday, September 14th at the Scranton Invitational. Hopkins is scheduled to face Wilkes at 4 p.m. and Rowan at 8 p.m.
