Canton, NY - Johns Hopkins senior Kathy Darling (Milford, DE/Milford) won the discus at the 2003 NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Championships Thursday on the campus of St. Lawrence University.

Darling, who finished second in the discus and javelin last year, won this year's discus with a throw of 158'5". Katie Corner of Calvin College was second with a throw of 158'2". Darling's throw shattered the track record by 24 feet.

Darling's win put Hopkins in a tie for second place after the first day of the championships. Wisconsin La Crosse leads with 11 points, followed by Richard Stockton, McMurry, Keene State and Hopkins, which all have 10 points.

Darling will compete in the javelin on Friday.
