WESTMINSTER, MD - The Johns Hopkins men's and women's track and field teams, with a small number of athletes competing, both finished second at the Twilight #2 meet yesterday hosted by Western Maryland College. The Blue Jay men were second to Western Maryland with 33 points, while the women were also second to the Green Terror with 18 points.

For the women, junior Kathy Darling once again provided the highlights as she set meet records in both the javelin and discus throws. Darling outdistanced the field by over 54 feet in the javelin with a mark of 156' 8.0", and then won the discus by over 45 feet with a throw of 151' 11.0". She has won the discus and javelin in each of the three competitions this season.

Freshman Hannah Bracken finished second in both the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash with times of 28.03 and 1:02.07, respectively. Junior Hilary Knipe took second in the 800-meter run at a 2:38.10 pace and was also fifth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:13.20. Sophomore Aline Bernard finished fourth in the 1,500-meter run with a team season-best time of 5:11.40. Junior Sarah Pesek tallied a point for JHU in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 12:50.14.
 

 

Six athletes scored points for the men, while junior Kevin Johnson and senior Ryan Holak each scored in two events. Johnson won the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.33 and was second in the 100-meter dash with a season-best time of 11.60. Holak took third in the shot put with a mark of 38' 9.0" and second in the javelin with a throw of 153' 9.5". Both of his marks were season bests for Hopkins.

Junior Rajeev Mahajan won the high jump with a leap of 6' 0.0", while senior John Apperson took first in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:01.38. Also recording points were sophomore Dan MacNeil who finished second in the 400-meter hurdles at a 1:02.53 pace, and senior Justin Hormel who took second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:41.50.

The Blue Jays return to action Saturday, April 20 at the Widener Invitational in Chester, Pennsylvania beginning at 11:00 a.m.
