WESTMINSTER - An afternoon of falling records highlighed the final day of competition for the Johns Hopkins women's track and field team, as the Blue Jays finished sixth with 75 poinrs at the 2006 Centennial Conference Championships, hosted by McDaniel College.

Two records fell in the field events, and one Centennial Conference record was established. In the pole vault, freshman Lauren Chun set another record, this time in the overall book, reaching a height of 10'6.25", besting the school record and Centennial Conference record by six inches.

Both the Johns Hopkins and Centennial Championship records were previously set at 10 feet. The school record was established in 2004 by Megan Carr, while the championship record was set in 2002 by Jen Bruce of McDaniel.

In jumping events, Ilolochika Emuh gave the Blue Jays solid performances in both the long jump and triple jump, using a leap of 36'10.25" in the triple jump to establish a new Hopkins record, dashing her own school record of 35'8.75" set a year ago. Emuh turned in another second place performance, reaching a distance of 17'9.75" in the long jump.

On the track, the 4x100 team of Jessica Reeves, Jordan Ireton, Emuh, and Giselle Joseph provided a record-setting performance by finishing in a time of 50.77, besting the old mark of 50.83, set in 1988. The foursome finished fourth in the competition.

Hopkins got its second first-place showing of the competition from freshman Amarachi Oniyma in the shot put, with a distance of 40'9". Onyima holds the school record, established this season, with a throw of better than 41 feet.

Other highlights for the Blue Jays included Emuh (12.85) and Joseph's (12.86) third and fourth-place showing, respectively, in the 100 meter dash, Joseph's third-place (26.22) in the the 200, and Reeves' fifth-place finish (5'0.5") in the high jump.

Completing a clean sweep of the 2006 championships, with wins on both the women's and men's side was Haverford, who collected 185 points to top the field.
