GETTYSBURG, PA - The Johns Hopkins women's track and field team finished sixth at the 2003 Centennial Conference Track and Field Championships this weekend at Gettysburg College. The Blue Jays totaled 50 points, while Gettysburg won with a total of 174 points.

Senior Kathy Darling (Milford, DE/Milford) won the javelin and discus for the second straight year and broke her meet record in the discus as she was named the meet's outstanding female performer. She broke her school record in the discus with a throw of 167'5" and recorded a mark of 145'10" in the javelin. Darling, who qualified for the NCAA Championships in the discus and javelin, also placed fifth in the shot put with a mark of 35'3".

Sophomore Andrea King (Farmington, NM/Farmington) had an excellent day as she won the shot put and broke the JHU record with a throw of 38'11.5". King broke Marjahna Segers' record of 38'5" set during the 1998 season.
 

 

The Blue Jays recorded points in four additional events, led by freshman Ilolochika Emuh (Highland, CA/Redlands), who placed third in the 100-meter hurdles with an ECAC qualifying time of 15.69. The time was Emuh's best of the season and broke her school record of 15.82 set at the UMBC Invitational.

Freshman Joanna Cohen (Roslyn, NY/Roslyn) was seventh in the long jump with a season-best mark of 15'5", while senior Ly-Lan Wisler (Bridgewater, NJ/Peddie School) placed eighth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:05.37. Senior Jackie Evans (State College, PA/State College) was eighth in the shot put with a mark of 33'4.5" and finished seventh in the discus with a season-best throw of 104'3".

The Blue Jays return to action Sunday, Mary 12 as Hopkins travels to Villanova University for the Tuppeny Classic.
