BALTIMORE - A record-setting performance in the shot put by Amarachi Onyima highlighted the weekend for the Johns Hopkins women's track and field team at the Paul Kaiser Classic, hosted by Shippensburg University on Saturday (April 29).

Onyima's record-setting toss of 40'11.5", good for fourth place and five points in the shot put event, eclipsed the school's previous record of 40'3.5", set in 2004 by Andrea King.

Overall, the Blue Jays finished 14th of 18 teams with 17.33 points. Host Shippensburg was first with 116.66 points.

Other top performances on Saturday included Angela Kaon's time of 10:43.41 in the 3,000 Meter Run, placing her first among collegiate athletes.

In the 200 Meter Dash event, a pair of Blue Jays finished among the top 11 collegiate runners, as Giselle Joseph ran in a time of 26.34 (10th place) and Ilolochika Emuh finished in 26.82 (12th). Both times eclipsed Joseph's season-best time of 27.07, set at the Terrapin Invitational on April 1.

The Blue Jays will compete next at the 2006 Centennial Conference Championships, set for May 5-7 at McDaniel College.
