April 7, 2007

DURHAM, NC - The Johns Hopkins track and field teams had two athletes compete in the Duke Invitational on Friday afternoon in Durham, North Carolina. Junior Patrick Brandon competed in the 10,000-meter run on the men's side while freshman Laura Paulsen ran in the 5,000-meter run on the women's side.

Brandon ran a 31:55.74 in the 10,000-meters to finish 26th in a field that featured Division I and III athletes. Brandon also broke the Hopkins school record in the 10,000-meters marking the second time in two weeks that mark has fallen. Brandon broke Andrew Lewis' mark that was set at the Towson Invitational; Lewis broke the school record in that event that had stood for 30 years.

Paulsen finished 14th in the 5,000-meter run on Friday. She crossed the line with a time of 17:15.88, as she was the top Division III finisher in a field that consisted of Division I athletes and elite professionals. Paulsen also broke the school record in the 5,000-meters, a record that had stood for 27 years.

Hopkins returns to action on April 9th and 10th at the Dickinson Multi-Meet.
