Blue Jays Clinch Centennial Tournament Berth With 6-3 Win over F&M

BALTIMORE, MD -- The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team won four of six singles matches and two of three in doubles play to knock off visiting Franklin & Marshall, 6-3, Friday afternoon. The win secures a spot in the upcoming Centennial Conference Tournament for the Blue Jays, who close the regular season against Swarthmore on Sunday.
The Blue Jays (13-3, 7-2 CC) got wins at first and third doubles to jump to a 2-1 lead heading into singles play. Brittany Matava and Tanya Gulnik teammed for an 8-6 win over Kate Gaskins and Barbara Bee at first singles, while Stephanie Carr and Jill Seidman cruised to an 8-3 win at third doubles.
Matava and Gulnick continued their solid play at the top of the singles ladder as Matava improved to 12-2 on the year with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Gaskins at number one, while Gulnik ran her record to 15-1 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Lizzy Denenberg in the number two spot.
Becky Busch and Mary Gorski accounted for the two other wins for the Blue Jays as Busch claimed a 6-1, 6-4 win over Dani Barish and Gorski topped Chirry Henkel 6-1, 6-0.
