CARLISLE, PA - Head Coach Chuck Willenborg, in just his second season, has led the Johns Hopkins women's tennis team to its second consecutive 12-win season. With an 8-1 win over Dickinson Wednesday night in Centennial Conference action the Blue Jays improve to 12-3 overall and 6-2 in conference play. Last year's squad finished 13-3.

Hopkins opened by winning two of three doubles matches to take an early 2-1 lead. Freshman Brittany Matava (Denver, CO/Littleton) and sophomore Tanya Gulnik (Frederick, MD/Governor Thomas Johnson) paired for an 8-0 win at first doubles over Erica Tobias. The duo, ranked #14 in the region, improves to 9-4 overall and 6-1 in the conference. At third doubles, the Jays picked up their second win. Junior Priya Puri (Wayzata, MN/The Blake School) and freshman Mary Gorski (Birmingham, MI/Shrine Catholic) won 8-3 over Jamie Wolf and Kat Hood. It was the first match together for the pair. Dickinson picked up its only win of the match at second doubles. Anne Kiely and Hana Thomson beat junior Becky Busch (Winnetka, IL/New Trier Township) and sophomore Stephanie Carr (West Hills, CA/La Reina) 8-4.

In singles play, the Jays swept all six matches in straight sets for the 8-1 win. #13 Matava won at first singles over Tobias (6-0, 6-0) to improve to 11-2 overall and 7-1 in the conference. Gulnik, ranked #23, improved to 14-1 overall and 8-0 in the conference with a win at second singles. She beat Kaplan 6-4, 6-1. At third singles, Busch won over Thomson 6-0, 7-6 (7-3). She improves to 8-2 overall and 4-1 in the conference. Puri picked up a win at fourth singles, beating Maya Ginsberg 6-4, 6-0. Gorski improved to 10-2 overall with a win at fifth singles. She beat Kiely 6-4, 6-2. And at sixth singles, Carr remained unbeaten at 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Melissa Nolan.

Hopkins returns to action on Friday, April 21 when Franklin & Marshall visits Baltimore. The Centennial Conference match is set to begin at 4:00 pm. The Blue Jays conclude the regular season on Sunday, April 23 against Swarthmore in a noon match.
