BALTIMORE, MD - The No.15 Johns Hopkins women's tennis team rolled to a 7-2 win over Washington College Tuesday in Centennial Conference action. The Blue Jays have won nine straight matches and are now 11-2 overall and 7-0 in the conference. The Shorewomen fall to 6-8 overall and 4-3 in the conference.

Hopkins took a 2-1 lead after the doubles matches with wins at second and third. Sophomore Brittany Matava (Denver, CO/Littleton) and sophomore Debbie Blass (Bridgeport, NY/Chittenango) lost a tight 9-7 match at first to No.27 Allison Daciek and Kellie Foster. At second, senior Becky Busch (Winnetka, IL/New Trier Township) and freshman Amanda Schubert (Richmond, VA/Mills E. Godwin) won 8-5 over Lydia Bull and Kate Barston. Junior Tanya Gulnik (Frederick, MD/Governor Thomas Johnson) and freshman Ellen Berlinghof (Fort Washington, PA/Upper Dublin) won easily at third, beating Sarah Macht and Kristen Hossick. It was the 12th win of the season for the duo as they improve to 12-3.

In singles, Hopkins won five of the six matches to take the 7-2 win. No.11 Matava won in three sets over No.31 Daciek at first singles for her fifth straight win. No.16 Anita Bhamidipati (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township High School) won her ninth straight and improved to 14-3 on the season with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Bull at second. No.21 Schubert also won in straight sets, beating Foster at third.
 

 

Gulnik won on her 12th of the season with a 6-0, 6-1 win at fourth over Ryoko Sawada. No.48 Berlinghof won her seventh straight match with an 8-2 win over Carrie Palmer at sixth. The Shorewomen picked up their second win of the match at fourth. No.52 Hossick won in three sets over Busch.

The Blue Jays return to action on Wednesday, when they travel to face the No.10 Mary Washington Eagles. The non-conference match is set to begin at 3:30 pm.
