Blue Jays Defeat Dickinson, 5-3, In Women's Tennis April 3, 2003
Baltimore, MD - The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team improved to 4-4 overall and 4-1 in the Centennial Conference with a 5-3 win over Dickinson College Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore Vandna Jerath (Augusta, GA/Augusta Prep) defeated Melissa Sviatko 6-1, 7-5 at No. 1 singles, while junior Cara Loeys (Oxshott Surrey, England/American Community School) blanked Anne Kiely 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3. Freshman Amanda Leese (Amherst, NH/Bishop Guertin), who remained unbeaten by improving to 7-0 on the season, was the other singles winner for the Blue Jays, as she defeated Calie Brennan 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4. Julie Chalfant posted a 6-7 (1), 6-2, 6-2 comeback win over sophomore Michelle Liang (Rochester, NY/Brighton) at No. 2 while Jessie Alderdice won by default over junior Liz Crowe (Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) at No. 5 for Dickinson. The No. 6 singles match between JHU freshman Pauline Pelletier (Arlington, TX/MB Lamar) and Dickinson's Lauren Madow was not completed due to darkness. The Blue Jays picked up two doubles points, as Jerath and freshman Jill Seidman (Arlington Heights, IL/Buffalo Grove) defeated Kiely and Brennan 8-3 at No. 2, while Crowe and Leese remained perfect at No. 3 with an 8-2 win over Madow and Liz Bouzarth. The Red Devils took the No. 1 doubles point as Sviatko and Chalfant topped Liang and Loeys 8-2.
