PALM BEACH, FL - The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team won its fourth straight match to improve to 4-1 with a dominating 8-1 win over Palm Beach Atlantic Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Jays return to Baltimore to face Goucher College on Friday, March 24.

Wins at #1 and #2 and a Sailfish default at #3 gave Hopkins an early 3-0 lead heading into the singles matches. Freshman Brittany Matava (Denver, CO/Littleton) and sophomore Tanya Gulnik (Frederick, MD/Governor Thomas Johnson) paired for their second straight win at #1 doubles. The pair defeated Pamela Artigas and Mandy Mahrt 8-1. At the #2 spot, freshman Debbie Blass (Bridgeport, NY/Chittenango) and junior Becky Busch (Winnetka, IL/New Trier Township) paired for a win in their first match together. The duo beat Alli Hillman and Amy Connor 8-6.

In singles action, Matava remained unbeaten at 4-0 with a 6-4, 6-1 over Artigas at #2. Gulnick moved to 5-0 on the season and 4-0 at #2 with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Hillman. Busch defeated Carola Artigas 6-2, 6-1. That win moved her record to 3-1 on the season. Sophomore Mary Gorski (Birmingham, MI/Shrine Catholic) defeated Connor 6-2, 6-0 at #5, improving to 3-0 on the season. The Sailfish defaulted at #6 and Mahrt picked up the only win for Palm Beach Atlantic at the #3 singles spot. She defeated junior Priya Puri (Wayzata, MN/The Blake School) 6-1, 6-2.
